Who:
Introducing your immersive experience instructor, Chris Collins!
Call me Chris, it’s code for Christopher.
Have you ever experienced the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX?
It’s a place where every race, gender and denomination is welcome. Catholics, Christians, Muslims, Buddhist, Trekkies, Swifties, 49er fans, Democrats, Republicans, you name it.
That’s how things start out in the lobby. Very open and inviting.
But, once you step into the inner part of the Chapel, you are on your own. Hardwood benches await.
Twelve paintings strategically placed around the outside walls are illuminated by natural light. A passing cloud can change the mood entirely.
I’ve been there many times, and it usually takes me about 20 minutes to start really connecting with the art. You have to let go—clear out all the noise bouncing around
in your head. Once that happens, it’s a transformative
experience. For me, it feels musical, like a mix of Bach and Nicolas Jaar. You get a sense of the man Rothko was.
Here’s the shocking twist: Rothko committed suicide right before the chapel opened. It was the last art project he did. The first time I visited the Chapel, I didn't know that.
Knowing that changes the way you experience the paintings entirely. But without that information, you wouldn’t necessarily feel sadness. Sure, the Paintings are darker than his previous work, but not depressing. It’s funny how a single piece of information can completely shift your perception.
This idea of perception brings me to leadership—and maybe a little more about myself.
Most of my career has been spent fixing businesses, especially in the automotive industry, though I’ve dabbled in everything from car dealerships to flower shops. Through it all, one thing has fascinated me: human behavior.
Blaise Pascal once said, “Man is the only animal that refuses to be what he is.” Voltaire added, “Man is the only animal that blushes. Or needs to.” Both ring true to me.
And now, let’s talk about Leadership.
Lately, I’ve noticed something troubling: we’re running low on real leaders, especially in America.
The pandemic only made it more obvious, and it’s getting worse. The leadership training out there has gotten fluffy, and expectations for what makes a great leader have softened. But we’re all thinking about it, right?
We’re just too polite to call it what it is.
I’ve seen the inner workings of politics and business firsthand. I’ve sat in the rooms where real leadership is supposed to happen, but more often than not, the game is about power and money, not solving problems or guiding people. The system is broken, and it’s upside down. Political parties function more like cults, and you’ll see it if you question or disagree with them.
This isn’t just in politics, though. It’s in business, religion, even family dynamics. Everywhere I look, I see followers and conformists when what we need are true leaders.
But here’s the good news: there’s a huge opportunity for real leaders to step up. It’s a seller’s market for leadership, and if you know how to lead, the world needs you now more than ever.
For the last five years, I’ve been working on an antidote to this leadership crisis. It’s called “I Am Leader”—a book set, online training, live lectures, and a community of people who are serious about stepping up.
Early adopters will be grandfathered into the community.
I also host a two-day transformational workshop in my private library in Los Angeles. The results have been incredible. We track the progress of every participant, and what I’m seeing aligns with what I hoped—real, lasting change.
I will tell you that what you will learn will surprise you. Won’t be like anything you have experienced. What you walk away with is a new architecture for how you experience things.
Just like with the Rothko suicide. Once you know, you can’t really unknow.
So I wouldn't take attending lightly. Even though everyone is welcome. Even Swifties.
